Personally, I think things are getting blown out of proportion a wee bit lately. I've never been too vocal on the subject, as I am for most hot-topic debates on dA, but I'm just wondering what the general concensus of some people is.

Yes, but not for reasons that most people bitch about.

My problem with the selection at this point is that more often than not lately anyway there have been reoccurences of the same artist getting a DD twice, or even three times in the span of a month. I know of one case where a person got DD twice in a week, now, im not sure if this is a problem because of the number of DD's picked or the people picking them not paying attention to the fact that a person has already recieved one in the past month. I think its more important that we see a better variety in DD's because now they all are starting to seem very similar. I know personally whenever I even suggest a DD it has to be something that grabs me for its originality and its technique. Very rarely do I see something that does both anymore. Might be why I stopped commenting

i don't think the DDs are bad, they're mostly good pieces of art. yet some of them don't really deserve such an 'award' like a DD; they're good, but they're not overwhelmingly good. It's not really differences in taste, it's just that some of the pieces chosen for DDs simply lack technical talent and/or an original idea and/or a pleasing design.

Maybe Daily Deviations are designed to give exposure to those artists who might not necessarily be recognized on their own (because they lack technical talent or whatever). However, I don't really think that it really accomplishes that; what it does is give me something else to click on. Because of that, I answered, "No, but there is room for improvement."

There are some undeniably great deviations that are chosen, but then there are boobs, pickles and dolls.

Those specific deviations are getting a lot of heat recently. I never really see the "boobs" ones with my mature content filter on, but I've heard things.

Well, for the most part, those who pick them intend to stress that they are not necessarily rewards of merit and quality. Moreover a simple grouping of favourites that a chosen few administration have decided to show the rest of the community in a public form. Though, they were heralded as more rewards back in the day, as far as I can remember.

yeah, i can remember the days when a DD was the greatest honnor one could recieve for a deviation and i somehow think that's the right approach of a DD. It should be a reward for unique pieces of art. a reward above faves, that grants the deviation a day of a better exposure on the front page. That got lost on the way, and i think it's a pity. even back then when i got my DD, i didn't think i really deserved it; my deviation wasn't artistically good enough or meaningful enough to deserve a DD; it's somehow that fave character which DDs have nowadays that came into play.

somehow i think it's a pity that DDs aren't what they once were anymore. they became some kind of DTF, and that's not really a good thing i think. the DTF are the deviations the masses like, just like the MTV charts, and DD used to be pieces competent admins (not that everyone here is incompetent) chose to show us some real art (again, nothing against DTFs)
